The Importance of Reading
“Despite the enormous quantity of books, how few people read! And if one reads profitably, one would realize how much stupid stuff the vulgar herd is content to swallow every day.”
Voltaire
In our day and age, conformity, as previously stated, is rampant. Once we open our eyes to this sickness and delusion, the quicker we can ask the question: What can we do? Answer: educate yourself and read. Avoiding conformity poses a difficult task, and be assured; if you are not educated, you will stand no chance against the herd.
When I suggest reading, I certainly do not mean that postmodern drivel that somehow manages to be called a 'book'. 'Literature' today serves as petty ideological manifestos and identity politics. They only teach to divide; they teach how to associate yourselves with ideology, and how to spout that sappy language that cries equity, diversity, and inclusion. Without reading, one is left without viable defense against the one-sided palaver that conformists blaspheme. They teach their vulgarity 'for the greater good', or for the collective. We shall discuss the illness that is 'the greater good' at a later date.
In the end, the only way to fight fascism and totalitarianism is to be educated. Read, read whatever you can grasp your hands on, because you will need it. Society has been on the decline rapidly in the importance in reading, and as I said in the previous article on social media, our current generation cannot even sit down and read a book. They need that dopamine rush, and they will do anything to achieve it. Even if that means conforming to whatever the rest of society believes, does, or agrees with. Separate yourself from the current. Dissociate yourself from the herd, and live your life freely, independent from public opinion and belief. To conclude, I would like to include a quote from Nietzsche (as seems to be the norm of this blog ha):
“Books for general reading always smell bad; the odor of common people hangs around them.” -Friedrich Nietzsche, Beyond Good and Evil
I may post an introductory book list somewhere in the future, which would consist of a mix of fiction and nonfiction. Hopefully that will be of use if you are looking for somewhere to start.
